HouseR - Non-Profit Project
2016 - Antananarivo (Madagascar)
Elena Cuntz, Markus Kaltenbach

The Malagasy capital Antananarivo, abbr. Tana, with approximately three million people continuously grows. House R will be one of these new single-family houses at the edge of the city. On the one hand the family lives close enough to the city to be able to commute and work there, on the other hand they still live in contact with nature, growing their own vegetables and even raise some fish in their small pond at the foot of their garden.
Our design allows the family to live very close to nature, describing a large transition zone between inside and outside. The location on site enables an impressive overview of the surrounding countryside. The house itself is adjusted to the family and their habits while having a strong focus on gatherings and community.
We would like to invite everyone to participate and share his ideas and experiences with us concerning climate adaptation, the use of local materials as well as the way of building in Madagascar.
